Being Able to Accept Home Health CareThere is a sense of freedom that comes with being independent.  Most of us take this sense of freedom for granted.  As we get older or if we suffer from a debilitating disease or injury, we can lose some of our abilities to function independently.  When this happens, we have to look to others for help.  Being able to accept help from others can be difficult for some people.

There are many causes that can result in a decrease of personal independence.  Some of these causes include a loss of vision, loss of hearing, inability to ambulate or move freely, loss in stamina, loss of physical strength, memory loss, etc.

With this loss of independence, people usually feel fear, anger, shame or guilt.  They are afraid because of the vulnerability they are experiencing.  They are angry because they can no longer do some of the everyday things they used to take for granted.  They are ashamed because they think they are less of a person because they can’t do the everyday things they used to.  Lastly, they can feel guilty because they now need help from other people, and do not want to be a burden.

People need to understand that everyone, even the most independent people, rely on other people every day.  Imagine a car breaking down, and how many different people are needed to help get that car running again.  There is a tow truck driver, a mechanic, a customer service rep, a cashier, etc.

Home health care can greatly help you to maintain your independence, and sustain the quality of life you are used to.  Don’t get angry.  Don’t be ashamed or afraid to ask for our help.  Don’t feel guilty.  As a home health care provider, it is our job to care and provide assistance.  We welcome the opportunity to be able to provide assistance to you.  Understand that helping you really makes us feel good.
